The detection and confirmation of dioxins, requires a high level of analytical performance. Until recently, the European Commission (EC) required the confirmation and quantification of dioxins by GC-HRMS, but recent technological advances in GC-MS/MS technology have enabled GC-MS/MS systems, like the Thermo Scientific TSQ 8000 Evo, to achieve the required sensitivity and selectivity for dioxin analysis. As a result, GC-MS/MS is now permitted for use in the EU as a full confirmatory method to control the maximum levels for dioxins in food and feed.
